Our scope was to design and construct a 900m2 fruit and vegetable retail store with deli and cold storage facility. The Town Grocer retail shop was to be built in the new shopping centre at Narellan, with a 12 week program from handover of the tenancy. A tremendous effort by the construction team and proof that our procedures implemented internally, have delivered consistent positive outcomes on all our project deadlines.
Icon engaged DTA Architects to design and redefine the typical contemporary style fruit, vegetable, and deli retail outlet by creating an experience and displaying generations of tradition using family portraits as wall coverings, and introducing character, with the use of natural timber wall linings to help pronounce the menu of deli selections in bold white text.
We used a durable floor finish (natural colored epoxy coatings) to enhance the simplistic grocery racking. We also used a recycled, commercial, PVC platform grate and black steel, then we sealed with natural gloss coatings. Once filled with a variety of European delicacies, the space was an invitation on its own.
The joinery was constructed using a beech veneer and stainless steel to give the shoppers a true sense of the beauty that the product has to offer. The point of sale registers are lined with a white Caesar Stone for durability but still offer a contemporary feel.
The feature suspended aluminium grid on the ceiling was designed by the lighting consultant to mount the Zumtobel track and spotlighting, this highlighted the fresh produce. The scheme uses predominantly warm white LED’s which were all selected to help create an organic environment.
Our audio contractors designed and installed a sound system with soft background music combined with phone, surveillance and wall mounted screens advertising the vast range of products and specials available.
